On September 18, 2025, authorities were alerted after workers at a scrapyard reported a strong and unusual odour coming from a vehicle that had been brought onto the site. The car, later confirmed to be linked to Burke, prompted immediate concern and was reported to police.
Upon investigation, human remains were discovered inside the vehicle.

The discovery came just days before what would have been her 15th birthday, adding further weight to an already devastating case.
